Subject: Being Reactive versus Proactive

People get caught up on a daily basis and fall short to properly process daily happenings. Before they know it, they become reactive instead of proactive. Reactive people act on impulse without using their cognitive skills. Instead of “Stop, Think, React (STR)”, they react, think, stop. As a result, they are most likely to make hasty decisions that they most often regret later on.

In addition, they are more likely to experience health related issues to include stress, anxiety [living fearful and tense], high blood pressure, headache, and depression. They are also more likely to experience anger, indignant, sadness, misery and are always on the run. Moreover, such individuals are more likely to create enemies [unnecessary ones at that].

On the other hand, proactive people are prudent risk takers who make clear decisions. They are focused-driven and attentive individuals who think of endless possibilities instead of reacting to nonsense. Jen Kashiwa (2014) in her article "How To Stop Being So Reactive All The Time" talked about six keys to becoming a proactive person to include; taking a beat, evaluating your beliefs, practicing compassion, asking for clarification, stating it upfront and being the change.

People will always make you feel a certain way; but only if you allow them to, as perception and assumptions are deceitful. People’s perceptions of you are not your reality. No matter what, you should always take control of yourself and that is one of the keys to living a peaceful life.

Subject: Habits of highly fulfilled people

Are you pleased with where you are with your daily routines? Are you better off with where you are today then yesterday?

It's easier to spend the day focussing on negativity. But you need to find the courage and wisdom to break out of any negative routines that you've got going on in your life that serve you no purpose. It could be the people you spend your valuable time with. It could be things you nourish your mind, body and soul with. It could be the simplest things you unconsciously do that put a negative tone to your day; but you are not aware of. As you go through your daily routine today, think about what you do today.

Be a person of vision, service, reflection and most importantly; be a person of action. It all starts on your daily routine.

Subject: Simple Ways To Be The Happiest Version Of Yourself

What I've learned so far about happiness is that, if you’re not happy with yourself, no one else can make you happy. Happiness starts at home, and the building foundation of true happiness is self love and self acceptance. Once you are aligned with those two, everything else in your life will just fit right in.

Everything on the inside sort of transmits outside from there. If you are not happy at home, you have no foundation and therefore, you attract all sorts of unhealthy habits and people; hence the cliché "misery loves company”. I always use trees to make my analogy about having a strong foundation. I also use a blade of grass as an analogy as well to make this point across. (I will digress, for the purpose of this blog; but if you want these full analogies, contact me).

Happiness takes work and I encourage anyone who is seeking true happiness to take some time to do a little soul searching. I say give yourself about six months for your soul searching; and if you need longer, then you take it. Find out about what makes you truly happy and do not factor anyone in the equation, but just you, yourself, and you alone. Remember that the key to true happiness as stated above is self acceptance and self love. You have to accept yourself and love yourself before you accept and love anyone else. Once you are aligned with yourself, wait and see how you start attracting positivity in your life.

I’m clear that it’s easier said than done; but it is possible. Go ahead and give it a try; take it one day at a time.

Happy soul searching and happy happiness!
